About Kamla

Kamla Textiles, Inc. is an importer of high-quality textiles, including homespun cottons and homespun cotton flannels, cotton batiks, and Dupioni silk created in India. Committed to providing a superior product, owner Nalin Patel works with only those suppliers who can meet his strict guidelines. With the exception of silks, all fabrics are 100% cotton.

Established in 1993, Kamla is located just outside Houston, in Missouri City, Texas. Orders are filled promptly and accurately. We look forward to being of service to you and providing you and your customers with outstanding products.

Homespun Cottons and Homespun Cotton Flannels are 100% hand-dyed cotton, hand-loomed to bring you a high quality fabric. The nature of hand-loomed and hand dyed techniques means there may be slight irregularities possible, but Kamla's fabrics are extremely consistent in hand and appearance. Most dyes are very stable and color fast. Bleeding is unlikely. However, such colorfastness cannot be guaranteed: chlorine, detergents, and other additives in water are just some of the many variables that can affect colorfastness. Washing in cool water is recommended.

Tip for washing: To test your washing conditions, soak a small piece of fabric in a jar or bowl of cool water with a small amount of mild detergent added. Place the wet fabric on a small piece of white cotton fabric. Observe whether any color transfers from the colored fabric to the white fabric.If it does, you will want to wash the fabric again, rinse thoroughly, and repeat until the bleeding stops. There are products on the market that are effective solutions., Follow directions accompanying the product.

Dupioni Silks are known for their luxurious sheen and soft slub texture. Kamla has a wide assortment from which to chose, as well as many China silks. These lines are in the process of being expanding to including plaids and stripes: watch for this exciting new addition.

In 2001, Kamla introduced a line of homespun plaids and stripes designed by Barb Sawyer of Stitches by Barb, called Express Yourself in Plaids and Stripes. This proved quite popular and was followed in by Express Yourself, II, and subsequently by Parfait Plaids, and Pollyanna Plaids.

In 2006, Kamla introduced a line of single side brushed Flannel Plaids and Stripes designed by Karen Lamp & Marlene Troyer of Country Craft Cupboard, called " Cottage Comforts " collection.

In 2007, Kamla introduced a line of single side brushed Flannel plaids designed by Anna Buchanan of A.M.Buchanan, called " Garden Medley " collection.In 2008 Kamla introduced 3 more collection designed by Anna Buchanan, called, " Muted Moments , Rustic Gatherings And Cuddles " collection.
